THE EXHIBITION.

The Sports Committee has arranged that the axemen's carnival shall be held on Thursday, January 17, and Saturday, January 19. in the Exhibition, Sports Ground. The Besses o' th } Barn Band will play in the Sports Ground each afternoon. A cable message was' received this morning from Nuremberg, Germany, applying for 300 square feet of space in a prominent part of the Exhibition for the purpose of exhibiting leather and metal ware, amber and jewellery. The date fixed for \the reception of pictures in the Art Gallery is September 15, which will enable the committee to have the work thoroughly well done before the opening date. Notices to this effect have been sent to the Art Societies of Canterbury, Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. , , Arrangements are being made that in future all meetings of the Executive Gommittee will be held in the Chamber of Commeroe rooms, in the Australian Mutual Provident Buildings. A recommendation, will be made to the Executive Committee, by tie Fine Arts Committee, relative to the charges for admission to the Art Gallery, and certain suggestions as to free days; A communication has been received by the Executive Commissioners from the Canterbury Fire Underwriters Association, announcing that the rate of premium on the wooden buildings of the Exhibition has been fixed at 9 per cent [ per annum, and on the AH Gallery at 4J per cent per annum.
