THE ALLEGED GERMAN PURCHASE.

LONDON, July 21. Mr Pretyman, Civil Lord of the Admiralty, states that the Whitworth
coalfields are outside the area where coal suitable for the navy is found, and the price paid by the German syndicate showed that the purchase
was insignificant.
