I A meeting of the committee of the Canter* ! bury Chess Club was held on Friday evening, s . Ootober 28, the Rev C. Turrell presiding. It was reaoJved that the president's , handicap tourney should be commenced on Tuesday, November 15. With the object of encourag- . ing young players and learners, members of ' the first and second classes will be debarred from competing in this tourney^ Mr Spilled was deputed to endeavour to obtain Mr Gray's consent to a variation in the conditions at' taching to the championship prize. It. was decided that the prizes for the 1904 status tourney should be presented to Messrs Nightingale and Worsley on Tuesday. November 15. Messrs Spiller, Nightingale and Poupard were appointed the Classification Committee for the ensuing year. It was resolved that the 1 "ladder system" should be brought into i operation forthwith.
