Raraitonga news states that Frank Ryder Davies and Harry Lyons were convicted under the Undesirable Immigrants Act,/ and arrangement* were made to ship then* bac£ to New Zealand, where both had served sentences in gaol. Davies and Lyons' were also charged, with James Glover, with having burglariously entered the Rara- . tonga Post Office! and stealing £lIS. The Court. found that the evidence l though, ifc • raised! grave suspicion, -was not sufficient to convict. ■■•,;'-■ ■'' ■ - 'Reports from Mangaia 2 .in ; the Cook Group, state that there is much friction i .;■-.■ between a section of the Natives aod MayorLarge, the resident European Magistrate -, and Agent. The authority; of the latter is disputed. The foremost of the disaffected Natives are Daniel and Meringitangj. The former claims to be King of Mangaia and the latter Judge of the island, though re--j* moved from that office on the arrival of. Mr Large four tnonths ago. Colonel Gud- ■ j geon, the Resident Commissioner, hasbeea i appealed to to deal with the offenders.
