4, Mr Robert Brown, who has been a member of the Lyttelton Borough Council for several years, and who rendered exceedingly good* service as chairman of the Water Supply Committee of the Council, has resigned the office of councillor, as ibis professional duties prevent ihim from attending the meetings. The Council last night, passed a vote of thanks to him (for ibis services.. Mr ¥. S. Whitcombe, who has been appointed Traffic Manager in Christoburch in place of Mr T. W. Waite, who has been transferred to Auckland, arrived this morning, with his family. Mr H. H. Jackson (Timaru) went south to-day. Mr R. Latter left Christchurch this morning for Barry's Bay, and Mr A. W. Lukis left for Culverdtn. Captain Colbeck has returned to Chrietchureh from a visit to DiinedJ*. Among the visitors to Christchuffch are: —Mr W. M. Hopkins (Sydney), Mi- Croft (Dtmedin), Mr and Mrs WilMe', Mr G. Gore and Mr arid Mrs Edgar- Jones. The Rev Canon King arrived, tfroan; til© north by the s.s. Tarawera this morning. Colonel Porter, Mr W. F. Massey, leader of the Opposition, and Dr Rawson have been booked for Wellington by the Rotomahaila this evening.
