JACK ASHORE.
~The report regarding the disturbances caused- by riotous English sailors while on shore at Palermo, in July, has been greatly exaggerated. There were a few cases of drunkenness, but considering - that over 10,000 sailors landed during /the week, the number can hardly be considered exoessive. Further, regarding the that the sailors had not paid fof purchases, the fact waa that they were ( more sinned against than sinning, for they were frequent victims of extortion by innkeepers and cabmen — a practice whica is comieraned even by the local Press.
