Thursday, September 3. (Before Mr S. B. Webb, J.P., .and Captaiii Marciel, J.P.) Cask Dismissed." — John ißurke, a trinwnen on. the s.s. Suffolk, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having used threatening and abusive behaviour towards James Ferguson, second engineer of the vessel. The evidence showed that accused had gone into the en-gine-room drunk, and when ordered to leave had refused, and had used veny violent and threatening language to Ferguson. The information had been laid under Part I. of the Police Offences Act, applying to offences in public places, and the Beech was of opinion that it could not convict, as a ship is not a public place for the purposes of Part I. of the Act. It dismissed the case without prejudice. x . Prohibition" Order.— A prohibition orden was issued against a man, on the application of his wife.
