MR GOW'S REPORT. [Per Prkss Association.] WELLINGTON, August 20. -. The Department of Industries and Coinmerke lias received the following market report from Mr Gotf, commercial agent ior the colony in South Africa, dated Durban, August 18 : — " Potatoes — The market is very fteady and prices are £10 on tlie spot, fluty paid. Arrivals from Madeira and Adelaide are costing £5 15s to £6 10s c.i.f. French supplies are expected within three weeks. There should be a good inquiry for Early Rose for the next three months. Present value is 18s for 1501 b. Onions are firmer. Spot .quotations are : Australian £8 10s, good 2^d per lb, duty paid ; Spanish £8 per ton in bond. The very latest reports concerning butter are to the effect that the market is very -weak owing to drops in Australia and heavy stocks locally ■held-^36,000 cases-— and operators are attempting to off load, in view of good prospects for the early supply and further reductions in prices in Australia. Prime qxiality, good-sized parcels can be /bought at lid, and medium 9d, poor at 6d — all in bond. There is very little indenting, except for some extra special quality in one or two well-known brands." ' Messrs Dalgety and Company 'have received the following -cable (message from their London office, under data August 19 : — Since our lost telegram prices of low und inferior descriptions of tallow are higher by 3d per cwt. Other descriptions are unchanged.
