The return match between the Australians 'and 1 Yorkshire opened in fino weather, on a soft wicket, and in the presence of an attendance numbering five thousand. Jones, Carter and Armstrong stood out of the visiting team, and WainwrLghb displaced Whitehead. Darling won the toss, and sent Trumper and Hopkins in to face the bowling of Rhodes and Hirst. When Trumper had made three ho was finely caught by Hirst, one hand — one wicket for three. Hill succeeded, only to see Hopkins bowled by Hirst — two wickets for three. Darling filled the breach, . and the outlook soon became brighter. The partnership provided lively cricket, and both men, batted freely, punishing Rhodes and Hirst with equal impartiality.
