MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
♦ The Watchmakers and Jewellers' Club held a "social" in the Caledonian rooms on Thursday evening. In the progressive euchre match Mrs Reynolds was firsts for the ladies and Mr Wilson 'for the gentlemen. Mr A. Beaver, of Dunedin, presented the prizes, and' wished the club every success. Musical items were given by Mrs Partridge, Miss Price, and a cornet solo by Mr 0. E. Partridge, ' which were all encored. The room was then cleared and a very enjoyable dance brought the evening to a close shortly after midnight. Mr Hitchens supplied the dance music. The weekly meeting of the Durham Street Metlfodisfc Literary Society was held on Friday evening, the Rev W. Baumber (president) in the chair. The journal was read by the editor,. Mr F. Turner, and the contents were freely criticised by those present. It was announced that on June 13, there would be a debate on the question " That the military spirit does not produce the best form of patriotism."
