THANKS GIVING SERVICE.

St Michael's this evening at 7.30. The choir are invited to be in attendance. An address wall be\ given by the Vicar. There -w4ll be no thanksgiving services in the Roman Catholic/ Churches to-night. Services ■will, however, be held later m the week, when special Te Deiuns will be sung. The Jewish community held a service at 2 p.m. in the Synagogue, when there was a very large , congregation. The Rev Zachafiah commenced the service with Psalm Ixxxiv. After the service the 100 th Psalm was intoned and the Scrolls of, the Law were taken from the Ark and Chapter xxvi. of Leviticus was read, beginning from the 6tb verse:— "And /I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, andi none shall make you .afraid, and I will rid eviL beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land." Appropriate prayers for peace and the Royal Family were said.
