ADDINGTON WORKSHOPS PROCESSION.
The display of the Addington Workshops' employees -was one of the chief features of the day. The procession, which left Addington at ten o'clock, was headed by tihe Workshops' Brass Band' and several grotesque figures. The men ■were ranged . by " the marshals, Messrs C. Earwaker, A. Johnston and W: C. Shaw, as follow : — T&rpaulini step, moulders, painters,, boilermakers, blacksrniehs, fitters and carpenters. The central figure was a fine tablea,u< represent■ing " Britannia 'and! Her Defenders." Another good display was on ambulance vaa» with the motto " The Hatchet is Buried," an-d another grotesque one bore the motto "Glass, With Care." Amongst a number of handsome banners carried were paintings of the Hoyal Arms, the Hon R. J. Seddon, Geoeral Babington, the Lion and the Boar, Colonel Robin, General Hector Macdonald, General Baden-Powell, Lord Roberts, Lord Kitchener, General French, General Buller, General White and the Union Jack. A number of men carried laurel wreath* with doves, showing the emblem of .peace. The men all wore sashes of red, white and blue, and' in the procession were a number of grotesquely-dressed characters and an improvised, drum and fife band. On leaving Addington the. procession moved along the Lincoln Road, past the Hospital, down Cambridge Terrace and Cashel Street to Madras Street, thence up Gloucester to Colombo Street and through Cathedral Square to HjLgh Street, and down Manchester Street to the South Belt, up which it proceeded to Colombw Street and returned to Cathedral Square, where it broke?up. Amongst other organisations which joined in at various points en route were the Railway fire engine, the Sydenham chemical engine, the two cdty fire engines and' the two chemical engines; Messrs Lucas Bros.' employees, with their " Long Tom " gun ; the University* students in cap andi gown, with an improvised 1 'band. Messrs Strange and Go. 'a employees made a fine display, all being seated in drags which, were gaily decollated. This display was headed by facsimiles of Lord Roberts and; other prominent officers of the war, followed by an emblematic representation of Great Britain and her colonies.
