BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL.
— _«, THE NEW PLAYGROUND. A ceremony of a very interesting nature took place at the Boys' High School yesterday afternoon, when tihc acre of land recently purchased by the Board of Govef* nors as an addition to t?he playground! was formally opened. At three o'clock the boys were drawn up in the open, .space in front of the Fives Court, and parents and friends, among whom were many ladies, were also present. , The headmaster, Mr C. E. Bevan-Brown 2 in a brief speech, introduced the Chairman! of the Board, Mr.T. S. Westo-n, and askedl him to declare the new ground open. My Weston, who was loudly applauded by tiro boys, said that it gave him very great pleasure to accede .to the headmaster's request, for he felt that the ptrpils would benefit largely from having a greater spaoe> "tftan formerly in which to disport themselves. Tbe Board had long felt the necessity of enlarging the playground, bub had been debarred by want of funds from doing so. This year, however, it had been able, by a special effort, to attain its desire, and the result was that he was able to open tie fin® piece of ground that ha<S been secured. The iron fence, which separated the old playground from the new was t/hen removed by the boys, and Mr Weston declared the grouud open. After the boys "had give© three cheers for the Chairman, the guests were entertained at afternon tea in the school. The new playground is about «un^§cre in extent, and runs through from the back of the school to Hereford Street. It is now covered with grass, and contains several fine willow trees, which, give it a pleasing appearance.
