It was found in the evening by a crossing used only by the employees at the Roma Street station, Brisbane^ It is not known how the accident happened. The deceased was in uniform during the day, and with, other officers was at the station seeing the Federal Commandant off. [P£R Press Association.] HOKITIKA, May 30. Mrs Mordant, ths proprietress of*aai hotel, at Dillmanstown, was found drowned in a water-race this morning. She retired to rest as usual- last night and nothing further was seen or heard of her till she was discovered in the water-race. A single woman about seventy years of age, named Maria Joyce, died suddenly, at her lodgings shortly after midnight. For the past five weeks she had been boarding with Mrs Smith, who keeps a fruit shop in Tuam Street. As mo doctor was Jn attendance before shfe 63ed, the body was removed to the , Morgue, where an inquest will be (held. The inquest touching the death iof m man earned. William Syke®, wfco died suddenly at Richmond yesterday, w»U be held before Mr R. Beetiham, district coroner, at 3.30 p.m. to-day, at the City Morgue.
