INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
A DUNEDIN SCANDAL. [Fiioji Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, Feb. 18. The urgent necessity for prodding hospital accommodation for oases ofHnfectio'us diseases in and about Dunedin was again made manifest yesterday. A young woman, a domestic servant, residing in Roslyn, was found to be suffering from diphtheria, and: was" ordered to the Dunedin Hospital.. The hospital authorities, having 'satisfied themselves 'by independent testimony thaU the case was of an infectious nature, refused, in accordance with their by-laws, to admit the case. The matter was taken up by the Health Department at 1 p.m., but.whatbetween the objections of householders to let rooms for such coses and the refusal of cabmen to assist in removing a patient suffering from an infectious disease, it was four o'clock before a resting-place was found for the unfortunate sufferer. This matter of providing accommodation for cases of infection has been brought before the authorities so prominently and frequently that the matter has almost reached the stage of a public scandal.
