THE VOLUNTEERS.
The Queen's Cadets, who were in camp at New Brighton last week, broke up camp this morning. During the course of the encampment a great d*eal of useful and practical work was accomplished. Owing to the illness of' Captain jjiuas the corps was in charge of Lieutenant Prebb'le, and that officer is to be congratulated on the high state of efficiency displayed by Cadets in tkeir work. The corps has now been brought up to its full strength, and. presents a very creditable appearance on parade, the average state of which during the week was forty. The Cadets have participated! in the Dunedlin military tournament for the past two years, and have on each occasion finished second in the bayonet eXercise. Maitini-Enfieldi rifles have "lately been issued to the corps. Yesterday morning the company held a church parade at the New Brighton Anglican Church, amd in the afternoon they were "at home " to their friends. On Friday Lieut«nant-Colonel Webb was to have inspected the corps, but, owing to his inability to attend, Captain Hobday officiated in his stead. On account of the rain, the programme of manoeuvres had to be curtailed, but sufficient proficiency was shown to warrant Captam Hobday in complimenting the corps on their •najuEtufiSH n{ appearance and behaviour. * I
