THE SCOTTISH SOCIETY OF CANTERBURY.
A general meeting of the Scottish Society of Canterbury was held in the Foresters' Hall, Lyttelton, last might. There was a large attendance, and the Chief, Mr A. Stewart, presided. It was reported that there were sixty-eight niemibevs on the books, and that the financial results of the inaugural concert had! been very satisfactory, there being a substantial ba-lano© in 'hand after paying all expenses. Several new members were elected. A •conunitfce of three was appointed to revise the rules, and to report at the next monthly meet? ing. The Chief congratulated the members on the position of the society, and on the success of the inaugural concert. He announced that, as he was about to leave Lyttelton, he must resign his office, and he strongly urged the members to do their utmost to uphold the honour of the land of their faithers, and"no make tfhe society a success. Mr Stewart's resignation was accepted with an expression of deep regret, and he was elected a life member of. the society. Mr Geonge Lffiurenffon, M.H.R., was unanimously elected to the office of Chief. j
