CYCLING.

CHRISTCHURCH CYCLING CLUB. ROAD RACE. That road-racing is still popular amongst cyclists was evidenced by the success which attended the road race organised by 'tho Christchurch Cycling Club, and which took place this afternoon, the- course being from the Hospital corner to Leeston and back. Considerable interest wa.s shown in the event, and several hundred spectators witnessed the ftart un<} the Bnish. A strong noi-th-enskerly v';ncl militated against f</sfc times being recorded, whilst the competitors were particularly unfortunate in the matter of punctures, their light racing tyres not being proof against the sharp, flint-like stones 'tha.t lay loose along a< considerable portion of the route. The winner turned up in J. Alexander, a young rider who had a handicap allowance of oOnriiv, and whose actual riding time was 3hr 24min 23 l-ssec. D. Price 15min, was second, liis riding time being ! 3hi"!d9min 22 4-ssec, whilst K Ritchie smin, finished third, and securpd the prize for the fastest unplaced rider, his time being 3hr 28min 55 2-ssec. Other starters were: — J. S. Wearne, A. Huston and C. Jones scr, S. Boyd' and; E. Hannan Ismin, H. Ritchie. R. and; G. HenWood 21min, J. W: McClintock, W. Teriin and H. Bullivant 23min, 15. Burt 24min, W: Burt 25min, W. Splatt 26min, «nd R. McCler.ahan 30min. C. Jones's tyre punctured' before reaching 'fho R-iccarton Hotel, but this rider secured a fresh machine and mad© another start. Alexander rode alone unpaced the greatest part of tfiie journey. ¥„ Ritchie, ihrough •accidents', had' to change machines three times.
