THE CHRISTCHURCH RECEPTION.
The Caledonian Society, in whose hands the arrangsm&nts for entertaining Sir Hector Macdonald have been left, intends leaving no stone unturned to give its guest a fitting reception. The Canterbury Hall had been engaged by the Melanesian Mission Committee for its bazaar, but when the difficulties for getting accommodation for the public were placed! before the committee this morning, it generously allowed the Caledonian Society the use of the Hall, and in consequence the concept advertised for the Ghoral Hall, has now been substituted by a monster conversazione, to be held in the Canterbury Hall on Tuesday night. The programme will consist of songs by Madame Spada, Mrs Burns, Miss Moir, Messrs Philip Newbury, A. W. Millar, and H. M. Reeves ; piano solo by Mrs Donald Maclean, Mns. Bac. ; bagpipe music, dances, etc. Tue centre of the hull will be cleared, and the public will have an opportunity of seeing Sir Hector amongst them. The proceeds of the concert are to be devoted to sending Christmas comforts to the troops still at the front. On Monday evening, General Macdtonald will be met on his arrival at the railway station bySiis Worship the Mayor and' Mr P. Campbell (President of the Caledonian Society), together with the directors and pipers of the Society.
