A MAORI WITCHCRAFT CASE.
-$- — : . . ... V [Per. Press Association.] NAPIER, July 22. A Maori named Tokomauri was charged at tho Magistrate's Court to-day with haying pretended to exercise witchcraft. Evidence showed that the accused asserted that has taipos had possessed) the child of a Native named Hawera, and"- he 'refused to remove them until they had .complied with the mysterious 4< Thirty-seven sevens." It was stated in evidence that, the, accused was a well-known tohunga, having been engaged in t-he work for. three years. The case is proceeding.
