PRINCE CHRISTIAN VICTOR MEMORIAL.
TO THB JSPITOB.
Sir,— rWill you allow us to appeal for assistance jn carrying out the. following project whitito was organised towards the close of last year?' Th© sympathy evinced hy our lamented and revered ,Qjaeen Victoria in all the personal sorrows of her people arising from the South African warn haa "awakened a warnT and grateful response in the hearts of the public, and it was then resolved to give expression to this all-pervading sentiment, and in some measure resgeotfully to reciprocate the sympathy which had heen shown, by establishing a permanent memorial of the grandson of the Queen, Prince Christian Victor of Schleswig-Holstein, who died in the service of his country in- South Africa-. Although the circumstances under. which this twbute would have been pakl are so sadly • altered, the love and gratitude, of the nation are-only intensified, and 'the fact *hat our beloved Sovereign took the greatest interest in the proposed memorial, and that it was one of her last wishes that it should be a euccess, not only makes it impossible to withdraw the* plan of a, collection, which omghlt otherwise seem inopportune at the present time, bu± 'adds a pathos to the appeal which camnox< fail to ensure its favourable reception "throughout the country. It ia proposed that the memorial shall take the form of a fund foi' founding and endowing beds in Princess Christian Cottage 'lHames for Disabled Soldiers and Sailors. This would' be an harmony witih ihe spirit snd aims of the youne Prince, who_alwaye ihad the dnterest of soldiers at fceaiC Donations amd offers of assistance in coltecfcion may be sent to the Thon.* organising secretaries, office of the Prince Christian Victor.
