LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD.

♦— • A meeting of the ' Lyttelton Harbour Board was held, this afternoon: present. — Messrs E. G. Wright (chairman), R. Pit-\ oaithly, D. Biiddo, M.H.R., G. Laurenson, M.H.R., F. Graham, A. Kaye, I. Gibbs, J. Rennie, P. Waymouth, W. Dunlop andi Captain M'Clatchie. The Chairman stated that since last meeting the following sums had been paid in to the Board's account : —Wharfage, £1797 17s 9d; pilotage and port charges, £1005 18s 4d; toAvage, storage, refunds, etc., £446 2s lid; total. £3249 19s. The second instalment, £15,000, of the dredging loan, had been taken up at and slight!*- over T>ai*. Tho dredge had been doing good work between No. 2 jetty and the entrance, 40,000 tons of mud having been removed during the past month. A report was received frcm Inspector Derbidge in regard to -the repairs which had had to b& carried out to No. 7 jett.**'. damaged by the Rosamond. The. cost. £33 6s ld, had" been paid by the Union Steamship. Company. Inspector Derbidge also submitted a report en the repairs which would be necessary to No. 4 jetty, damaged .by tha Mn-u'ra. The cost he estimated at £40. The Chairman said that the work would be paid for by the Union Steamship Company. Inspector Derbidge forwarded a report on the repaire required afc the Governor's Bay jetty. The cost was estimated at £16 14s 2d, and it was decide-VA^jhave'the work carried out. AljP ' The master of the Spfdge reported that it would' be necessary fn obtain new mooring chains, to enable the dredge to. work in the outer harbour. It was decided to send an order Home for a set of side mooring chains for the dredge. The Harbour Master reported that Mr William Hendry, mate of the 'tug* Lyttelton, had died! suddenly, and 'he had* appointed Mr J. Harris temporarily to fill the position. On the motion of Mr Budd, seconded by Captain M'Clatchie, it was decided to forward a letter of condolence to the widow of the late Captain Hendry, and to pay her her late husband's salary for three months. Mr Laurenson moved-— "That Mr J. Harris he permanently appointed mate of the tug." This was seconded by Mr Pitcaitlily and agreed to. Accounts were passed for payment as under : — No. .1 account, £1256 2s 8d ; No. 2 Recount, £405 2s 7d. A letter was received from the Bank of New Zealand, advising the Board of the sale of the second instalment of the dredging loan, £15,000, at and above par. (Left, sitting.)
