» — . — ■ • The fortnightly meeting of the Pioneer Amateur Bicycle and Athletic Club was held last eveiring ; present — Messrs W. J. S. Hayward (captain), E. E. Daniels, H. S. Batchelor, R. T. Lees, C- S. Harper, D. Hoare, W. G. Hall, P. Menzies, R, Wallace, F. H. Harley and Dr Thomas. Correspondence was read from the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, submitting the terms upon which the Council would grant the management 6f the forthcoming New Zealand Championship meeting to the Pioneer Club. It was decided that, owing to misapprehension with regard to the conduct of the meeting, leave be asked* to withdraw fr&m any futther participation, in the manageiriant of it. Mr W. Cobeldick, the winner of the club's Threemile Steeplechase, waited lipon the c6mmittee, by request, ..to explain certain allegations in regard to his amateur status. It was decided that, as Mr Oobeldick had furnished a straightforward explanation of bis position, the matter be referred to the Council of the Athletic Association, as it ap-^ peared that body was at fault in not re/ instating Mr Cobeldick four years ago. The club's spring meeting was fixed for Nov. 24, and it was decided to institute a new form of bicycle racing, known aa the " bumping " handicap system, which is expected to do away with the loafing tactics now so much in vogne. Mr F. H. Harley wa^ appointed handicapper for the athletic events. A general meeting of the club will be called shortly, to confirm the action of the delegates to the Cyclists' Alliance in amalgamating that body with the League of New Zealand Wheelmen. Two new members were elected.
