SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
-$ _ llie ordinary monthly meeting of the Kaiapoi School Committee was held yesterday evening ; present' — Messrs Moore (chairman), Feldwick, Coup, Young, Drakely, Ellen, Clark, Doubleday, and. Parnlhamt| Correspondence was read — From Miss Gilmiour, resigning her position as assistant mistress, awing to her haviing received' an appointment in Christchurch. The Secretary was authorised to send Mis® Gilriiour a letter expressing- the committee's regret at losing her services. The Education Board wrote regarding the model rifles applied for by the committee, stating that the price was 4s each/, aud also enclosing the conditions undler which they could be supplied. The committee left the matter over until next meeting. The Education Board also wrote sanctioning this appointment of Mr Hill as assistant teacher, arid further stated that it was considering/t he question of securing the raising of the capitation grant. A letter was received! from Mr D. Buddo, M.H.R., prosnasing to support the amendmmt in the Education Acd to allow householders' wives to vote at the annual householdiers' meetings, and to support the raising of the capitation grant to £4. A letter was received from Mrs Drabble com- , plaining of one of the teachers punishing her \bby I so severely as to necessitate hS absence for two weeks und'ei" medical treatment. The committee agreed 1 to held an inquiry into tine affair ow next Monday evening, aiidi to ask the persons concerned, and the heaii - master, to. bo present. It was reported that the flagstaff and flag were ready, and, on the motion of Messrs Clark and Feldwick, it was. resolved to make application tc. the Govermnent for a subsidy towards thedr cos^ The head-master's report showed that the number on- the roll was 487 ; and! the average attendance 380.6, being a decrease of 42.2, and the lowest for a long timfe. Arrangements for the celebration to be held on the relief of Mafeking were discussed, and i* was arranged that the hcisting of the new flag should be ..performed by the Mayor on that date. Accounts' amounting to £3 la 8d were passed for payment, and tie meeting closed.
