Despite the small quantity offering there was a full attendance of buyers. The average quality was not up to the standard of earlier sales," being late shorn, sandy ancl seedy. Bidding was somewhat erratic, for some passed at- last sale prices were in excess, while others did not reach what was then offered. On the whole the keen competition of local buyers caused prices to be well maintained, despite the considerable fall in other markets in the colony. Prices ranged— Merinoes 7!d for inferior to 13_«d for super, half-breds 6d to 12£ d, crossbred s_>d to 9d, three-quarter-bred long wools 4£d to 7£d, pieces and bellies o*d to 9|d, locks Id to sd.
