SWIMMING.

«, A meeting of delegates from the swimming clubs in Canterbury was held on Tuesday night ; present — Messrs G. J. C. Smart, local- consul (chairman) ■, L. D. Armitage, H. L. Armitage, W. Cleary, W. Johnson, J. S. Wauchop and W. Bergh. The Christchurch Cycling Club wrote, asking that the j benefit meeting to be held at Lancaster | Park on Saturday should be postponed, as it would clash with the New Zealand Wheel Race. It was decided to postpone the meeting indefinitely. Mr L. D. Armitage wrote, resigning the jporition .of inter-club handicapper. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Armitage for his services, and Mr W. Johnson was appointed inter-club handicapper. The subject of schools championships was brought up. It was decided to hold the championships this year, and they were allotted as follows : — 2syds, East Christchurch, Jan. 27 ; 50yds, Richmond, Feb. 3 ; 75yds, Christchurch, Feb. 10; 100 yds, Sydenham, Feb. 17. Mr Bergi was appointed secretary of the schools championships. The dates for the Hornby and Addington Clubs' meetings were fixed for Feb. 24 and March 3. A meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Swimming Club waa 'held at the Clarendon Hotel last night; present — Messrs Smart (chairman), Buchanan, Fitzpatrick, Francis, Watson, Sinclair and Gray. The programme for the annual meeting was drawn up. It was decided to donate £2 2s towards the expenses of the New Zealand representatives going to Sydney. Mr Gray was elected delegate to the local conßul meetings, 'Mr Smart, the present delegate, having been elected consul.
