OBITUARY.
MR DAVID HASTINGS BROWN,
The many friends of Mr D. H. Brown, proprietor of the Brookfeld Roller Flour Mills, will regret to hear that he died rather suddenly at his residence, Fendalton, yesterday afternoon.' Mr Brown, who had been in excellent health up to a few days ago, caught a chill, and pneumonia supervening, he rapidly sank and died. He was fifty-five years of age, and was born in Scotland". He spent a good deal of his early life in Ireland. On arriving in New Zealand he became manager of the Ashburton Mills. He was afterwards in partnership with Mr John Jackson in the Timaru Mills, and later on he built the Brookfield Roller Mills at Addington, of which he was proprietor at the time of his death. Mr Brown was of a very kindly nature, and he had the reputation of being most charitable in his dealings -with the poorer classes.
