MR THOMAS M'DOWELL.
. The late Mr Thomas M'Dowell, who died suddenly last Saturday, was very well known among the early settlers of Canterbury, and the respect in which he was held was shown by the large attendance at his fiineral, and the many beautiful wreaths that were sent. Mr M'Dowell arrived in Canterbury in 1860 by the ship Mystery, and for some twelve years resided in the Amuri district, where he made many friends. In 1872 he removed to Christchurch, and during his residence in the city was known in connection with various branches of business. He leaves a widow and a family of five sons and one daughter.
