The Kaiapoi Borough Council held its . fortnightly meeting on Tuesday;; present—: Councillors Hopkins, Daly, Edmonds, Gugg, j Eagle, Knight, Hayman, Pearce and Double- ] day. It as decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Works Committee, with power to act," and to bring xip a report at next meeting. The Works Committee reported that the paths had been coated with grit. ■ The Finance Committee reported the receipts since last meeting to have been £29 16s lid, the debit balance to be £688 14s 7d, and recommended accounts to the amount of £22 9s 7d for payment. The report was adopted. Mr Fergusson interviewed the Council relative to a. drain which had been closed up by Mr W. Moore', and in. conse'quehce damage was being done to his crop^! Tito Council agieed to write- to Mr. W^ Moore, requesting him to, at once attend to .the' matter. The Surveyor's report on. the works' in the. town was reajd and adopted. The Clerk was instructed to serve Mrs" Monk and Mr J. 'Hurst ■■with, final notices to attend to their' crossing an'd' fence.' Tlie " Surveyor recommended that Ranfurly Street should be shingled, and that the ratable value of two sections should be raised to £16 l^Os each. A question of a. drain near Mrs Hicks's premises was left to the Works Committee, with power to act. The^matter of leasing the North Road reserve was Jeft in "abeyance, till the sheep by-law was completed; It was decided to_ call for tenders for the supply of 150 load's of shingle. . ,
