Tho man referred to was, of course, in the dock, but the witness resolutely refused to see him, and pointed instead to 'a" police officer. The policeman, feeling himself to be in a delicate position, with everyone's eyes on him, suddenly remembered that he had left something lying about on the other side of the Court, and ■w ent to remedy his remissness. The v/itaoss still continued to point in the same direction, and a knot of gallery frequenters who were directly behind the policeman, and who had thought the position exquisitely funny when he had been pointed out, now found themselves in his -place, the centre of interest to scores of suspicious eyes, and a general movement was made to have a clear alleyway for the witness to point at. It was Gr.aUy found that the witness had misunderstood the question, and was pointing out the individual who had picked him up.
