THE FLORAL FETE.
The Floral Fete Committee met in the City Council Chambers last evening. There \vaß a large attendance, and the Mayor of Christchurch occupied the chair. Mr Smith •moved that the fete should be held on Dec. 1. Mr Fuller seconded the motion, which was carried. A sub-committee was appointed, consisting of Messrs Smith, Hart, Russell, Woods aud Clarksoru to visit and inspect the Show Grounds and Lancaster Park, and report at a future meeting as to the most suitable ground upon which to hold the fete. It was resolved thai the committee should meet every Friday evening, at the Council Chambers, up till the date of the fete. The following were elected to act oh the sub-committees : — Programme. Advertising and Printing Committee — Messrs Cockayne, Craddock, Baker, Smith, Marshall, Clarkson, Samuels and Dr Levinge ; Interviewing Committee — The Mayor. . and Messrs Bishop, Kirk, Cowlishaw, Kesteven, W. Thompson, Smith, T. Bassett, Hancock, M. Murphv, F. Crosbie and Fuller. It was resolved that Mr M. Murphy should be asked to again visit the schools and interest the children in the fete, and .should also interview the Chairmen of the School Committees, with a view to getting a holiday for the children on the day of the fete. M« T. Clarkson's name was added to the Ladies' Committee, and that of Mr G. Moon to the General Committee. It was resolved that it should be a recommendation to the Programme Committee that floral cycling events should be added to the programme. The meeting then terminated.
