The Emperor of China, who was reported to be dead, is in excellent health. He is eager that Great Britain should intervene to restore him to power. There are indications that a British fleet will occupy Taku, in the Gulf of PechilL It is reported from Pekin that Kang Yanhuan, the rival of Li Hung Chang, wa« charged with harbouring Kang Kuwei anc deprived of office. Kang, who was undei British protection, went on board th< steamer Ballaarat, bound from Woosung t< Hong Kong. He left Pekin at the instana of the Emperor, who gave him a friendlj warning. He ascribes the coup dVat t* the Manchu party, led by the Dowagei Empress. It has been agreed^ that if Russian in terests are supported at Pekin, Manchurie shall be the seat of the dynasty.
