LITTLE RIVER REGATTA.
A meeting" of the Little River Regatta Club was held in the Courthouse l Little River, on Saturday -e^ning. Mr H. D". Buchanan presided. Thes balance-sheet relating to last year's regatta showed the receipts to have been £162 Is Bd, and the expenditure £98 19s, the balance in hand being £33 2s Bd. The report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. It was resolvecl that the next regatta should be held on the upjper end of Lake Forsyth on Boxing Day, 1898. Officers Avere elected as follows : — Patron, the Hon W. Montgomery ; president, Mr H. D. Buchanan ; vice-presidents, Messrs F. A; Anson, G. J. Black, A. D. M. Allan, W. Birdling, jun., R. Latter, W. H. Mont■£omery, R. Birdling and J. Parkinson ; judges, Messrs R. | D. Buchanan, R. H. Rhodes and the Hon W. Montgomery ; umpires, Messrs F. A. Anson andW.'G. Atack ; starter, Mr A. E. Craddock ; honorary treasurer, Mr J. F. Buchanan ;. honorary secretary, Mr T. Quealy ; committee — Messrs H.D. and J. F. Buchanan, W. H. Montgomery, J. Coop, C. Cha.pman, F. M'Manus, G. Robinson, J. Reid, T. Price, R. Birdling and -A. Meyers. • Messrs H. D. and J. F. Buchanan offered to contribute £10, the amount to be expended in prizes for a Maori Canoe Race, the first prize to be £5, second prize £3, and third prize £2, the Tace to be an open handicap for Maoris ; distance half a mile, no entrance fees. The offer Avas ;aceepted with thanks, and Messrs J. Coop and C. Chapman were appointed to act as :handicappers. It .was decided that the prot gramme should be as folloAVS : — Maiden Pair Oar, one mil© ; Senior Pair Oar, one mile and a half.; Junior Pair Oar, one mile; Youths' Pair Oar, one mile ; Maori Canoe Race, half a mile; Maiden Double Sculls, one. mile,; Senior Double Sculls, one mile ;and a half:; Junior Double Sculls, one mile ; Youths' Double Sculls, one mile. Messrs H. D. Buchanan, J. Coop, J. Montgomery and T. Quealy were authorised to intervieAV the Railway Traffic Manager and make the necessary .arrangements for an excursion train on the regatta, day. It was resolved that a trophy, suitably inscribed, should be presented to Mr A. E. Craddock, in recognition of his services to the club, and Mr Quealy was elected a life member of the club. A vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the meeting.
