Friday, Sept. 23. (Before Mr J. Hamilton, J.P.) Desertixg. — Thomas J. Parker, J, A. Franklin and Henry Sims pleaded guilty to a charge that they deserted from the schooner Duke of Devonshire. Mr Nalder appeared to prosecute on behalf of the captain. The accused were sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment, to be put on board their ship at Dunedin.

Throwing Stones. — James Campbell was charged with throwing stones, to the danger of persons in a public, street. The evidence was to the effect that, on Sept. 15, the accused threw a number of stones into a mob of persons near the Post Cffice corner. He was fined 40s, or in default seven days' imprisonment.
