ENTERTAINMENTS.

There was a good audience at the Oddfellows' Hall last night, when the musical and elocutionary contests/ held under the auspices of the Canterbury Band of Hope Union, were continued. The prize-winners in the competitions on Tuesday night were announced as follows : — Eecitations, Class A — Elsie Bntterfteld (Crescent Eoad) and Daisy Potter (Selwyn Street) equal, 1 ; Horella Down (Selwyn Street), 2 ; Earle Spencer (Burwood), 3. Model Band of Hope address — Miss Burns (Selwyn Street), 1. Vocal solos, Class B — Ethel Corrick (St Asaph Street). Vocal duet, Class B— Masters Farland and Milter (St Asaph Street). Vocal trios, Class C— Miss Armstrong and party (East Belt). ChoirsEast Belt choir, 1 ; St Asaph Street choir, 2. The programme for to-night will consist of vocal solos iv Class C, violin solos and duets, and vocal duets. A large contingent from Kaiapoi will compete, and the names of the winners of last night's competitions will be announced.

The monthly social evening of the Albion Football Club was held on Monday evening in tho club-room, about eighty members and friends being present. Mr L. T. Watkins (club captain) occupied the chair. A long programme of instrumental and vocal music and step dances was gone through. Eefreshinents were handed round during the evening by the committee. Mr M'lntosh was accompanist. The Canterbury Caledonian Society held a dance at its "rooms last night, when there was a large attendance. Mr R. M'Millan was the officer in charge of the festivities, which passed off very successfully, and in which a variety of Scotch dances, and a Highland fling by the Misses Bain, .were leading features. The return card match between lady and gentlemen members will take place on Oct. 3. .
