MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
A debate was held in Sb John's School room last evening by the members of the Literary Association.. The subject was " That the human race would benefit by woman entering into free competition with man in his business professions and pursuits. About fifty young people took part m the debate, and the voting was in favour of the affirmative by a majority of about six. J Court Star of Canterbury, Order of Foresters met on Monday evening, the C.B. Bro G. Mummery in the chair. There was a moderate attendance. The Woodwords reported twenty-four members on ?V IC *V™'-D Th ? RS - sported the death of P.C.E. Bro J. Sears PCE ttro S^-?? 1 n V f C , ourfc , Manation . No 'oSS visited the Court, and was cordially welcomed. A memorandum was received from f\ . d l Bfcr i cfc e6Cv&t ™J stating that the district officers would p ay an official visit to the Court on Oct. 3. P.D.C.E. Crooks presented a framed certificate, and the emblems of office to P.C.R. Bro Armitage. A candidate was proposed and one member was granted a clearance.
