[Per Press Association-.] ' AUCKLAND, Sept. 15. Albert Hatton, whio recently bought Van Breda's shirt factory, attempted suicide tliis afternoon. His windpipe is nearly severed, and he is in a critical condition. It is understood that he was troubled by personal worries. He was a man of a nervous, high-strung temperament. He was a single man and much respected. His friends state that there was no necessity for his apprehensions, as his (business was successfully carried on, but being of a nervous, excitable temperament, his new position of managing a large factory apparently entailed too much worry upon him. At the inquest on Charles W. Curtis, a verdict of death from alcoholic poisoning, caused by excessive drinking 1 , was returned.
