A little incident occurred this afternoon which throws some light on the devious ways employed by Opposition members in their endeavours to discredit the Government. A return dealing with travelling expenses was laid on the table by ihe Premier. Mr George Hutchison, commenting on it, informed the House that the Government was in the habit of opposing returns asked for by him, and subsequently placing on the table of the House papers containing the information asked for. In reply, Mr Sedftion .stated that the member for Patea made a practice of asking fov information which would be supplied by the Government in the ordinary course, in order to create the impression that he was forcing the hand of the Government. Mr Pirani is moving for an alteration in the committee which the Minister of Lands wishes set up to inquire into the charges made by Mr Hutchison against the Premier's relation. Mr Pirani wants the name of Mr Smith substituted for that of the Minister of Lands, the mover. The Water Supply Act Amendment Bill ■ was received in the House from the Council this afternoon, and Mr Wright explained the nature of the amendments made in the mea-sui-e, consideration of which is to be taken on Tuesday. On account of illness, the Hon W. Rolleston to-day was granted one week's leave of absence. It is understood that the Cabinet will con-, sider Inspector Broham's resignation at the end of the present week. The Premier has given notice to move that; on |„id after Wednesday, Sept. 21, Government business for the remainder of the session take precedence over all other business on Wednesdays.
