FIRES.

About six o'clock on Saturday evening an alarm of fire was received from the box at the old Junction Hotel, in Victoria Street, and the Fire Brigades turned out promptly to find, however, that their services were not required. The alarm had been given for a chimney which had caught fire at a dairy shop in Victoria Street, and it had been put out before the Brigade arrived. | A stack of oatsheaves valued at .£SO, the property of Mr Edward Wash bourne, was burned down at Lakeside during Friday night. The stack was situated about half a mile from.- the homestead,. and-.the first that was known of the fire was between 7 and 8 a.m. on Saturday, when the stack was found to be still smouldering. There was no insurance.
