BOROUGH COUNCIL.
SUMNEE. ! The ordinary meeting of this Council was held on "Wednesday, present— The Mayor (Mr Eollitt), Councillors Monck, Mills, Hanmer, White, Graham and Heskett. Councillor Hanmer moved that the resolution passed at a former meeting in reference to barbed wire fronting on roads and streets within the borough should be rescinded. This was seconded by Councillor White and carried, and . thereupon Councillor Mills moved " that any barbed wire fronting a formed footpath, or which the Council considered dangerous, should be removed. This was seconded by Councillor Monck and carried. The Engineer's report was read and approved. The Finance Committee reported as follows •. — Eeceipts since last meeting _£27 ISs 9d, and accounts for £1. 15s were piissed for payment. The hawker's license granted to A. Penrose was' continued. Tenders were accepted as follows: — Supply of coal to the Pumping Station, W. Thomas, at 28s per ton : removal of nightsoil and rubbish for twelve months ending March 31, 1899, W. Lawson; cleaning and grubbing gorse "on Esplanade and Council's Eeserve, E. Barnford. It was resolved that' the Public Library should be closed for the present.
