A Jarge and enthusiastic meeting was held here last night, at which a Mining League was formed to ventilate the values of the Ross deep levels, with the view of inducing foreign capital to work them. The Government, after having given the Robs United Company every facility for eighteen years to develop and work the ground, at the joint request of the Ross Borough Council and the Ross Miners' Association, resumed the auriferous lands for the non-compliance for ten years with the Labour clauses, and for the non-pay-ment of any rent for five years. The Ross flat having now been declared a public mining reserve, with no lien whatsoever, it is confidently believed that foreign capital will now wme in,

The following report of the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company for the week ending March 2, hasbeen telegraphed from Dunedin by our special correspondent : — Smelting plant No. I— Whole plant temporarily stopped to clean out accumulation cf flue dust in the flues, but five furnaces are again in operation. Prolongation of main brick flue for No. 6 furnace— Nearing completion. Smelting plant No. 2—Excavation for building, &c, proceeding. Platelaying for inclined haulage line , for materials— Finished. Erecting* steam winch, and mortar mill on site of excavation for main chimney — Progressing. Clearing groaad for hill flue, converter plant, extension oi .storage, and loading platform— ln* hand, N0.3 boiiur— Connected up. Five thousand four hundred and eighty-nine tons of blister copper consigned to date, being 2224 tons for the current half-year.
