THE VOLUNTEERS.

IMPERIAL EIPLES. The first annual general meeting of tbe Imperial Kifles was held at their orderlyroom last night. Captain Charlewood presided. Lieutenants Maroiel and Holderness were present, and fifty-four rank and file. The various committees for the efficient working of the corps for the ensuing year- were appointed. Captain Charlewood announced that he would give £5 for shooting prizes, and the officers decided to give a like amount. The allotment of the prizeß was left in the hands of the Shooting Committee. It was stated that a requisition for greatcoats — to te obtained, if possible, before the Easter camp — had been forwarded to the Defence Office. A. hearty vote of thanks to the variovs non-commissioned officers who had so ungrudgingly given their time and energy to the early training of the crops was carried with enthusiasm, and the meeting terminated.

A meeting of the non-commissioned volunteer officers of the North Canterbury district was held last night at their orderlyrooin. Staff-Sergeant-Major Barrett presided, nnd there was a good attendance. It was resolved that the annual meeting should be held on March 23. At Kainpoi on Tuesday evening prizes were distributed to the senior and junior ' owlets by Captain Thomas Millar, who spoke of the keen interest which Mr K. J. 1 Alexander had taken in the welfare of the ■ corps. The following were the highest 1 scorers amongst the senior cadets :— H. 1 Poarce 1344 marks, P. Eichards 134, A. 1 Driscoll 133, W. Richards 130.V, H. [ Oram 130, P. Luisetti 128 J. .The prizes were a suit of clothes, given by Mv G. H. Blackwell, and a silver medal, by Mr N. G. Eobilliard. Iv the junior cadets, P. Hunt was first with 135 marks. Tho , prizes constated of travelling bags, a port- } munteau and a silver watch.
