SWIMMING.

The annual swimming competition of th c girls of the West Christchurch school took place on Tuesday afternoon at the. school bath. ' The Old Boys' Swimming Eace was held in the St Albans School bath on Tuesday evening, and resulted as follows :— First heat (distance three lengths) : P. Stubberfleld, 28sec, 1 j E. J. Allen, scr, 2, Second heat : F. Gardner, Bsec, 1 • Cyril Atkinson, 2sec, 2. Final heat : F. Gardner, Bsec, 1 ; E. J. Allen, sci; 2. : Won by a fenfeet. , • •. ' The committee of the Canterbury Amateur Swimming Club met yesterday, when Mr W. G. Atack presided. Final arrangements were made for the annual race meeting, which will be held in Mr Kent's bath, Richmond, to-morrow evening. Owing to the large number of entries, it was decided to start the first event— the Junior InterClub Eace— at 7.30 sharp. The Secretary reported that over one hundred swimmers, including the fastest men in New Zealand, would take part in the principal races, and that Eich and Truscott, Isew Zealand champions, would attempt to beat the Association's standard in the 220 yds Grand Invitation Scratch Itace. Excellent arrangements have been made for heating the water and lighting the bath.
