ASHBURTON.
There was a large attendance of farmers and dealers at the Aahburton yards yesterday, when some 18,000 sheep were offered for sale. Owing to the continued dry weather, and scarcity of feed, the sale was dull from start to finish, and a great many lines were passed. The sheep in the fat pens were I'ar from first-class mutton, and sold at from 4s 6d to 12s for cross-breds, old ewes averaging about 5s and wethers from 10s to 12s. Store sheep were very difficult to sell at any price. Forward wethers made from 7s to 9s Gd, lambs from Is 6d to 6s, and ewes from 9d to 5s 6d. Cattle were also hard fo quit. Fat heifers made from <£!• to .£5 7s 6d, stores from 30s to 355, springers £o 2s Gd.
