KLONDYKE.

The most interesting as well as the most trustworthy accounts of the condition of affairs in the Klondyke region furnished to the American press, were from j the pen of a traveller who returned to San Francisco at the beginning of January. His . narrative of the trip to and fro was one ,9? extraordinary-i-havdship. Davrson City he describes as being built on a swamp of black~water and mud. There was neither drainage nor sewerage in the town, and as a result typhoid and other filth diseases were rampant. Turning, however, to the golden side of the picture he said : " The amount of gold will prove not only as great as predicted, but greater. I never saw so much money in my life, and it was all gold dust taken out of the claims. There was no coined money."
