John Brown, a young man, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment with hard labour, at the Supreme Court, for indecently assaulting Mrs Jane Brown with intent. The Judge said that he could sentence Brown to be flogged as well, but he had a disinclination to flogging as a punishment. WELLINGTON, March 14. ' Mr and Mrs Healey were charged at the 1 Supreme Court with illtreating a boy 1 named Albert Green, who was placed m ; their charge. The trial was deferred from ' several sessions to enable a certificate of j the boy's birth to be procured from J England. This shows that he was four--1 teen on Jan. 1, and consequently came I within the scope of the Act. ; HOKITIKA, March 14. , The criminal sessions of the Supreme | Court opened this morning, before Judge Denniston. Three criminal charges, of murder, attempted suicide and burglary 3> were set down for hearing. Jn jj the case Regina v. Quin, a Westport a charge of burglary, the «tand Jury threw out the bill. In the 13 e %ginav. Carsen (Rimu), murder, a 8 3 true bill was returned, and the case is now w proceeding. A true bill was found in the suicide case, Regina v. Brown.
