Cheviot.— Our correspondent writes that splendid warm showers have been falling intermittently during the week, and that there is likely to be an abundance of feed for some months to come. Timabu Freezing Works.— The Christchurch Meat Company is arranging for a public inspection of its Timaru works on Saturday next, and preparations are being made as for a " house- warming " over the extonsive additioms recently made to the buildings and plant. Waimakariri Ashley Water-supply Board.— Messrs T. Burgin and R. J. B. Dalley have been nominated for the seat on the Waimakariri-Ashley Water-supply Board, rendered vacant by the retirement of Mr J. O'Halloran. A poll will take place on Friday next. County Election — The result of the polling for a member to represent the South Eakaia Riding in the Ashburton County Council was as follows : — Mr John Lambie (Kyle), 94 5 Mr William Wilkinson (Chertsey), 90 ; Mr Hugo Friedlander (Ashburtcn) 72. Mr John Lambie was declared duly elected. A Small Farm Sold.— At Timaru °a Saturday, Messrs Guinness and Le Cren sold by auction 50J acres of farm land on the Orari, about two miles east of the railway. It belonged to the estate of the late James Stewart, and after some competition between a few bidders, it was sold to Mr G. Stewart at .£2O 10s per acre. Obituary.— On Saturday morning Mr A. Peebles, of Cust, died after a somewhat lengthened illness. The deceased waß a respected member of the community, and had been engaged in agricultural pursuits in the Cust district for over thirty years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and many besides his widow and Family will mourn his death. Hampstead Town Board.— At a meetino- of this Board on Friday the Chairman safd that Councillor Hardley and himself had interviewed the County Engineer about asupplyofwaterforHampstead,andthatthe Engineer had informed them that there was no difficulty in the way if a requisition were presented to the Council^ and the supply would cost about 12s Gd per eeotiou.
