TPbR PBBSS ASSOOX__fION.I ' WELLINGTON, March H. If the poll for. the loan of .£15,000 is successful, the City Council intends to invite the public to snbscnbe the money in £50 and £100 debentures. The same .course will be followed in respect to the amount of £30,000, which will shortly be required to pay off the Corporation overdraft under the power granted by the Act of last session. A trial of the drainage works machinery ' •was made to-day. The scheme is now nearly complete, and most of tbe connections have been made. About two-thirds of the sewage escapes to sea by gravitation, and the remainder is collected into ejectors and lifted from low levels by compressed air. Everything worked without a hitch. The formal opening will not take place-f or some weeks till every part has beenthoroughly tested. In all, between sixty, and seventy miles of mains have been laid. * ' . ; The city loan of £15,000 was carried by 1212 to 455. . ' '
