THE MOTHERS' UNION.

•a This Union, which increases each year in numbers and importance, held its annual festival on Wednesday last. The programme consisted of a special service in the Cathedral at eleven o'clock, an informal luncheon in the Art Gallery, a meeting in the afternoon in the same place, followed by a tea, which was provided by the town branches for their own members and those from the various country branches who were able to be present. The arrangements were under the charge of Mrs Purchas, secretary of the Union, and Mrs Croxton, and were very ably carried out by them and their many willing helpers. The Bishop's address in the Cathedral, from Proverbs xiv. 1, was listened to with earnest attention, which showed how much it was appreciated. The afternoon meeting, at which Mrs Julius, president of the Union, occupied the chair, was addressed by the Rev W. Scorgie, of St Peter's Church ; the Rev J. Holland, of Rakaia ; and Mrs E. A. Scott. The attendance of members was veiy large, and their interest in the Union is evidently true and strong.
