LINWOOD.
A speciai meeting ot the Linwood Borough Council was held last evening, to consider matters in connection with the Tuam Street drain ; present — The Mayor, and Councillors Ayers, Brunt, Joseph Taylor, Jamieson, John Taylor and Marshall. A letter was read from the Town Clerk, stating that the City Council, in answer to a letter from the Borough Council, offered no objection to the construction of a covered-in drain in place of the present open drain. It was moved by Councillor Brunt, and seconded by Councillor Jamieson—" That the Mayor, Councillors and burgesses of the Linwood Borough, acting by the Council of tho said borough, do, by special order, adopt the Local Bodies LoanAct, 1886, and do limit its operation to a particular loan proposed to be raised for the purpose of constructing a brick sewer in '1 uam Street in the Borough of Linwood, and that this special order shall take effect on the ninth day of April, 1898." The motion was carried unanimously. It was resolved, ou the motion of Councillor Ayers, seconded by Councillor Brunt— "That a special meeting of this Council, for the purpose of confirming the aforesaid resolution, be held on Friday, the eighth day of April, 1898, at seven o'clock p.m." After some discussion it was resolved — "That the Drainage Board be asked if, in the event of this Council finding the sum of ,£BOO, the Board will construct a brick-barred drain in lieu of the open drain in Tuam Street, and also if the Board will contribute -320 per annum towards the interest and sinking fund df a loan the Linwood Council propose to raise for carrying out the work; and that Councillors Britnt, Marshall, and the Mayor be a deputation to wait on the Drainage Board to support the request." The meeting then terminated.
